Behind the Controller with Jake Zschering

We recently went behind the controller with Jake Zschering who happens to hold 2 world records in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies!! Over the past year, he has been advocating for patients and families at Beaumont Children’s and rocking his new Extra Life routine. Check out his stream here!

How long have you been involved with Extra Life Detroit?
1 full year!

How did you find out about Extra Life?
I was researching fundraising and organizations, then stumbled upon Extra Life on Twitter. Looked more into it and instantly knew this was going to be where I needed to be.

What makes you so passionate about raising funds for CMN/Beaumont Children’s?
The kids. They are so strong being able to fight their own battles like they do. It’s inspiring and being able to raise money for them is an honor.

What does Game Day look like for you?
Game day for me is a 24 hour live stream. This year I decided to use a different strategy to try and raise funds, by taking pledges for how long I am able to stream.

Has COVID-19 and quarantine altered your gaming routine?
It did for around 6 weeks. A layoff happened, so I was able to game a bunch. I even was able to participate in Extra Live United!

How long have you been gaming and what are your favorite games to play?
I’ve been gaming since I can remember, maybe 5 or 6 years old? So about 20 years of my life! I play all sorts of games, from engaging and thought provoking single player games, to online Multiplayer games. A few games Im currently obsessed with are Assassins Creed and Call of Duty.

What is your favorite childhood game?
Man, there are too many to choose from. I would have to say Mega Man X2. I used to play that game through the night until the sun rose.

What would you tell someone thinking about signing up for Extra Life?
Do it. There’s no failing extra life. You have the potential to change some kids’ life, even if you are simply bringing the idea to other new extra lifers. Together we can make things happen!

Favorite memory involving Extra Life?
Being only involved for a year so far, and Covid consuming half of it, I would have to say either my last Charity stream I did, where we jumped over the $500 benchmark for the year, or when I was given the opportunity to visit the children’s hospital, and was able to put faces to some of the other extra lifers in my guild.

Fun fact about you:
I currently hold 2 World records in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies!

Thank you so much for all you do to support kids treated at Beaumont Children’s!
