Southeast Michigan Gamers Raise $99,000 for Beaumont Children’s Bike Day Program

Extra Life, a peer-to-peer fundraising program of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, empowers gamers to raise funds for their local children’s hospital while doing what they love. Participants play video games, tabletop games, RPGs and more while asking their network to donate toward their goal. In Detroit, Extra Lifers raise funds to support pediatric needs at Beaumont Children’s.

Local Extra Life leaders choose a need at the hospital to support each year. In 2022, 240 gamers raised $99,000 for Beaumont Children’s Bike Day. Each year, Beaumont’s Center for Children’s Rehabilitation provides custom, adaptive bicycles to 100 local children living with a disability. Patients are referred to the program through their Beaumont physical therapist and receive the bike free-of-charge thanks to funding from Children’s Miracle Network partners and programs, like Extra Life. Timmy Nelson, Extra Life Detroit Guild Advisor, raised over $8,000 for Beaumont Children’s in 2022.

Raising money for Bike Day made me feel so connected to the kids over at Beaumont Children’s. I remember countless summers riding sun up to sun down through our neighborhood with my younger brother and friends. What an amazing opportunity we have, giving children their very own customized, accessible ride, to create their own summertime adventures and memories!
